The WADster's Guide Home Page
Welcome to Steve's new-look "wannabe a WADster" pages!
This area will probably always be under construction: eventually, I hope to
have links out to cover
everything that the budding WADster needs to know. If you find these pages
useful, please email me and supply feedback.
Check out the list of recent changes if you want to see what's new day-by-day.
Information currently in or accessible from the Guide:

-
Regarded by many as the WADster's Bible, the UDS is the standard
repository of all knowledge and wisdom, for though earlier versions had many omissions and
contained much that was apocryphal, or at least wildly inaccurate, it has always scored
over all other works in two important respects. First, it was the
earliest: without this document there would be no DOOM level editors today;
and secondly it has the word DOOM inscribed in large unfriendly letters on
its cover. [with apologies to both Douglas Adams and Matt Fell.]
This is a new updated hypertext version, incorporating Heretic modifications, and the latest Official Hexen Technical Specs!
You can also have a zipped copy of the original v1.666 UDS and the v0.9 OHTS by Ben Morris.
- Bernd Kreimeier's UDS Errata.
- A draft copy of a running errata to the Unofficial Doom Specs, maintained
by Bernd Kreimeier. This is the 31st March 1995 copy:
There is a zipped copy of this too.
Alternatively, try Bonn for the
latest copy.
- Tom Neff's Level Design FAQs.
- Another classic document, explaining the mistakes we've all made
and putting right some of the mis-information in the specs. Everyone should
read this one!
You can also have a zipped copy.
- Scott Ampoker's DOOM metrics.
- Explains all about the measurements used by the DOOM engine and how big
THINGS are!
You can also have a zipped copy.
- Scott Ampoker's DOOM textures.
- Explains all about texture aligning as well as the intricate
details of pegging and unpegging on linedefs.
You can also have a zipped copy.
- Jens Hykkelbjerg's RMB package.
- If you want to work wonders with (or just learn more about) REJECTS,
you need this package. You can get a copy (or just read about it and lots of other DOOM goodies) on Jens' Pages in Denmark.
- Doom-Gate.
- The main entrance to the DOOM Web Project. Everything you ever wanted to know about id's games, and lots more besides.
