John was a dear friend. We met in 1974 in our first year, when he was sharing a flat in the Henry Price Building at Leeds Uni. with Pete Barker a friend of mine from school , we all spent a lot of time round at 11 Kelso Road. In our second year at Leeds we shared a house at 93 Brudenell Road ( close by the Hyde Park Cinema ), with Sally Jean, Des, Carolyn and later Charlie. We remained friends and maintained contact after university. He was an absolutely splendid bloke; an intelligent, gentle, kind, witty, warm man.
